1997-2005 - artist and journalist
Even after fifty years of communist oppression, the Romanian spirit never died. The voice, the colours and the shapes of that ancient land are now reborn.
And I was there when it happened, listening to it’s every note, filling sheet after sheet with it’s new people, new joy and new sorrows. Now things have new meanings as people can tell their stories. As people can now enjoy or cry telling them. For the artist, this rediscovered universe of shapes, textures, emotions is a source of understanding and will to create. Because art is authentic through what we are, where we are coming from, through the people we leave amongst.
I was born in a small town near the Danube River. I’ve spent my first years of Art School as a child, in Constanta, the former Tomis Fortress founded at the beginning of the sixth century before Christ by Ionian colonists came from Miletus. After sixteen years I had to move to Brasov, a medieval town in the heart of Carpathian Mountains, where I finished my art studies and exhibited my work. Brasov was also the beginning of my journalist career with a couple of radio art programmes for a broadcasting network.
Bucharest was the next stop. Here I decided to complete my studies in Journalism attending and graduating the Institute of Cultural Journalism in Bucharest followed by the National School of Journalism. I continued working in media, producing and presenting several art programmes for a national radio station.
A better job and position in radio would have me moved after 5 years to Campina, close to Bucharest and the mountains. Here I could intensely concentrate on my art, having a few private exhibitions.
In 2003 I've left the country, opening another chapter of my life and career: Ireland.
Even though my roots are running deep in my country’s land, Ireland offers me a precious gift: Time. Time to work, to think, to create.
